Smoothing Your Hip Dips
Hip dips, or violin hips, are naturally occurring inward curves that create an uneven silhouette from the hips to the top of the thighs. Whether or not someone has hip dips is solely dependent on the shape of that person’s pelvis, and thus cannot be changed by diet or exercise. In fact, losing weight can further expose them. The only option to address this situation is through a Hip Dip procedure.
RADIESSE®/ Sculptra® Hip Dip Procedure
Liposculpting is the surgical procedure to eliminate hip dips by suctioning fat from one area of the body and injecting it into the trochanter area. This procedure requires an extensive recovery time and one to two months of wearing a compression document. Fortunately, there is a non-surgical procedure that is a better option for the majority of our patients. The use of derma fillers, Sculptra® or RADIESSE®, smooths out the inward of the hips to create a contoured silhouette. Approved by the FDA, Sculptra® and RADIESSE® are injectables that create volume in the hip dip area by supporting your body’s collagen production in this specific part of your body to create the contours you want.
RADIESSE® is a collagen stimulator composed of tiny calcium-based microspheres that are suspended in a water-based gel. These microspheres are similar to minerals naturally found in the body so your body absorbs and metabolizes them over time, leaving only your natural collagen behind. Sculptra® is another collagen stimulator that is made of the same substance that is commonly found in biodegradable stitches. This poly-L-lactic acid is a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic material that is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body. Through a series of treatments, this product fills in the hip dip area by encouraging collagen production to create a smooth silhouette.
More than one appointment is many times necessary to achieve optimum hip dip results with these products. The actual number of appointments, and the number of injections per appointment, varies from person to person and is dependent upon how much filler and collagen is needed to fill in and sculpt the hip area. On average, we have found that one to three injection appointments are needed over a period of a few months for patients to reach their goals. Appointments are completed in approximately 1-2 hours. Both RADIESSE® and Sculptra® Hip Dip derma fillers are collagen stimulants and results improve over time, usually lasting two to five years. We consult with our patients to determine which product is best for their goals.
A hip dip procedure is perfect for women who don’t like this part of their physique but it can also be included as part of a non-surgical Brazillian butt lift for those who also want this procedure.

What to Expect with RADIESSE® and Sculptra®
RADIESSE® and Sculptra® injections are relatively painless and we prioritize your comfort throughout the procedure. One of our skilled nurse practitioners will make the injections in the target areas as determined during your consultation, to carefully remove your hip dips. While there is little to no downtime during recovery, specific post-treatment care is necessary and will be discussed with you during the procedure appointment. Most patients see results both immediately and increasing over a few months. Follow-up treatments will be required to maintain the results as your body absorbs the filler over time.
After the procedure, some patients experience mild redness and bruising. You can reduce the extent of this issue by avoiding medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and vitamin E for one week before treatment. Some patients find that the use of arnica gel helps to avoid bruising.
